For CPAs, wealth advisors, bankers, business brokers, attorneys, and coaches

Use the assessment with your clients. It's free, and it stays free.

Owner dependence is the first thing a buyer, a lender, or an underwriter prices. The Owner Independence Assessment gives you and your client a shared number for it, in four minutes, with no signup and no sales pitch in the way.

How advisors use it

  1. 1

Send your link, or sit with them.

Four minutes on a phone is enough. Many advisors run it live at the start of a planning meeting, reading each statement aloud.

  2. 2

Read the results together, lowest category first.

The results page already sorts them. The question to ask is: who, by name, should own more of this?

  3. 3

Agree on one first move with a seven-day horizon.

The results page gives a first move for every category. One is enough. Put it on the agenda for your next meeting.

  4. 4

    Retake it in 90 days.

The private results link lets the owner compare. A rising score is evidence the business is becoming saleable, bankable, and insurable on better terms.

Your own link

Add ?via=your-name to the address and every client who arrives through it is counted as yours. Once 5 of your clients have taken it, a page shows their combined averages, band mix, and most common starting point. Individual results are never shown there; each owner decides whether to share their own link with you.

Your name or firm. The link is yours the moment you make it; nothing to register.

Use it under your own brand

The assessment is licensed CC BY-ND 4.0. You may print it, embed a link to it, put it in a client packet, or teach from it, in your firm's materials and alongside your firm's services. Two conditions: keep the attribution to John M. Fulwider, PhD, CEPA, and don't change the twenty statements or the scoring, so a score from your office means the same thing as a score from anyone else's. The full items, scale, and scoring are on the method page.

Print it for a client

The self-scoring paper version is a four-page PDF with the twenty statements, the 0 to 5 scale, the scoring, the four bands, and a first-move worksheet. Print it for a client who would rather work on paper, or hand it out at the start of a meeting.
